Participatory Research

Participatory Research

Workshop for Participatory Research.

Detailed Description

Since the 1970’s, scholars (and more recently scientific agencies) have been raising concerns regarding the incapacity of research to address ‘the real world’ and go beyond its ‘Ivory Tower’. Participatory research represents a broad tradition of research practices developed to ensure that beneficiaries and target groups are involved in the different cycles of the research—such as objectives setting, data collection, feedback and dissemination. This workshop will expose the particular benefits and challenges raised by participatory research. It is designed to provide students with the conceptual and practical tools to design and carry out participatory research with the different communities they investigate.

The exercise is built around students’ experience to date with participatory research. Participatory research requires a high degree of planning and complex interactions with the people under scrutiny/stakeholders/beneficiaries. Students are encouraged to bring an outline of their participatory research planning and the challenges they are facing, as well as of the type of data they may have already collected using this methodological approach (if available). We will collectively discuss those elements in order to benefit from the insights generated in the first part of the course as well as from each other’s experiences.

Date of event 06/06/2022.

Standard refund policy applies.
